Cataloguing information resources on cultural, historical and social development of the indigenous peoples of KhMAO-Yugra

Abstract. The results of the work on consolidation of information resources about cultural, historical, and social development of the indigenous peoples of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug-Yugra are provided by the authors. The main objective of the research was to develop methodological recommendations for establishing search procedures, cataloguing, systematization, featuring of information resources, and for integrating heterogeneous information resources in a unified system to meet information needs of all categories of potential users. Within the context of enhancing linguistic and cultural diversity the research aimed at preserving historical and cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra is quite relevant. Moreover an urgent need for inventorying and systematizing numerous and diverse information resources accumulated as a result of research conducted by individual researchers and research centers make the problems under consideration topical. The paper presents a methodological approach to cataloguing information resources on the cultural, historical and social development of indigenous peoples of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra with focus on procedures used to describe information resources for particular thematic groups (sections).
The information collected within the research is distributed into four sections describing peculiarities of culture, traditions, everyday life, history, language, and core spheres of Yugra peoples activities. Search for information resources is accompanied by making detailed description, dividing into subsections, verifying resource characteristics to provide functional efficiency of the sections. Thus, systematization of information resources on cultural, historical, and social development of the peoples of KhMAO-Yugra appears in the form of the centralized catalogue of information resources.
