Abstract. This article considers the Komi translations of Hungarian poetry made by V. I. Lytkin. In 1927, while studying in Budapest, he had opportunity to learn the Hungarian language and to get acquainted with the Hungarian literature and culture. At this time V. I. Lytkin had translated into the Komi language original poems of Hungarian authors (Sándor Petőfi, Endre Ady, Gyula Szentessy) and some works of folklore. Knowledge of the Hungarian language, kinship of this pair of languages involved in translation process, philological, linguistic preparation and own poetic talent of translator contribute to the fact that V. I. Lytkin creates accurate and adequate translations of Hungarian poetry. However there are inevitable divergences with the original in any literary translation. They are associated with the inability of expression of any specifics of the language, form or content of the original. This applies especially to poetic translations. Deviations from the original text are found also in the translations of V. I. Lytkin. Because of these changes (minimal) all translations of the poet are signed: "based on S. Petőfi", "based on E. Ady", etc. This practice is typical not only for translations from Hungarian, but also for the other translation creativity of V. I. Lytkin.
