The lexical definitions of the emotion of anger in the Udmurt language

Abstract:The article deals with the lexical definition of anger which is represented by a large vocabulary in the Udmurt language. The emotion of anger is universal and it has played an important role in the development of society. As a rule this emotion has negative characteristics. In Udmurt language for the expression of the anger emotions the following words are used: jyrkur, vozhpoton, jyrkurjas’kon, lekjas’kon, lekomon, zhobjas’kon ‘anger, spite, exasperation ‘, urmon ‘fury’, ukylmon ‘frenzy’, zyrdan ‘tension’, degree of intensity – from jyrkur to urmon. Special attention is paid to specific national views, and the dialectal features of the use of the lexemes. Synonymous rows given in the two dictionaries of synonyms, begin with the word jyrkur ‘anger; spite, exasperation’; jyrkur luyny ‘angry, get mad’; jyrez kur karyny ‘anger; embitter’; jyrkurze pottyny ‘infuriate’ etc. The word jyrkur is formed from two roots: jyr ‘head’ and kur ‘offense, grief, sorrow’, in other words – offense in the head, or head offense. The study identified a variety of lexical definitions of anger in the Udmurt language, their features and specific use.
