Abstract. The article analyzes the geopolitical position of Ugra since ancient times to the present day. The author considers the area not as a passive field, where the external players operate, but as an active subject of regional geopolitical relations. The article also highlights the role of Ugra in the genesis of statehood on the territory of Eurasia. The work displays the positive effect of Ugra and adjacent to it areas on the socio-economic, politico-military and cultural development of our country during the long historical period. The article is relevant for the present time, where there is a certain tension in inter-ethnic relations. It may be useful for state employees, representatives of humanities, professors, teachers and local historians of Ugra.
