Surgut district at the end of XVI-XVIII centuries. Historical- ethnographic aspect of the colonization of Siberia

Abstract. Surgut was founded by Russian detachment of the Prince Fyodor Baryatinsky and Vladimir Anichkov in 1594. New Surgut district included the territory of the Middle Ob area. Russian authority in the region was represented by a small garrison of Surgut. Riflemen and Cossacks had a main value in the garrison, in addition to them there were service class outlanders – the Lithuanians and Cherkassy. In fact, service class people were the only group of the Russian population of the district. After the construction of Surgut the service class people of the town’s garrison played a major role in joining of the river Ob basin to Russia, where later Narymsky, Ketsky and Tomsky districts appeared.
