Abstract. The designation of winds represents an independent microsystem as a part of the meteorological vocabulary of the Udmurt language. Its formation and development occurred within many millennia, since the proto-Finno-Ugric epoch, mainly on the basis of internal resources at the minimum participation of external sources. The research has shown that with appropriate lexical means it is fixed the presence or absence of air flow and indicated the degree of their intensity.
