Abstract. Introduction: the authors for the first time consider the semantics of the preverb nukh ‘up’ with a spatial meaning in combination with verbs representing different lexical-semantic groups: motion, movement, action, state. The list of such verbs and the detailed description of changing of their verbal valence were not reveal on the material of the Khanty language till present time. A preverb (derivational element of adverbial origin which modifies or changes the meaning of a verb depending on the syntactic compatibility) is distinguished in the composition of the verbal predicate in a Khanty sentence. Objective: the authors identify the verbs with the preverb nukh and describe changing of the semantics of verbs and their syntactic compatibility. The results of the research can be used in comparing of genetically related languages, as well as for writing of scientific grammar of the Khanty language. Research materials: the materials of the research are verbs of the Kazym dialect of the Khanty language collected by the authors with the preverb nukh. Results and novelty of the research: the preverb nukh mainly attached to verbs of action and movement. As a result we have the opportunity to make observations on changes in the number of valences of the derived verbs:on keeping the number of valences or decrease of the number of valences of the verb. Verbs of LSG of movement and being in space lose locative valence, they can transfer into verbs of LSG of action; verbs of action do not change their valence; verbs of motion can transfer into verbs of LSG of action, physical or psychic state. Change in the composition of the semantic group of verbs of state is due to the syntactic compatibility of the verb with different types of subjects (animate, inanimate objects, natural phenomena). A remarkable feature of the derived verbs with the preverb nukh is changing of the semantics or structure of meanings of the polysemantic verbs.
Key words: valence, lexical-semantic group, verbs of motion, preverb, semantics. For citation: Solovar V. N., Burykin A. A.
