Abstract. Introduction: the article deals with a detailed consideration of the structure of the case word-forms of the definite declension. A special attention is paid to the study of the Erzya dialects, subdialects and their classification. It allowed to show the dispersion of residence of the speakers of Erzya language, which led to the uneven
distribution of dialects and subdialects and absence of clear boundaries between them. Objective: the analysis of the variation of the case word-forms in the singular of the definite declension of the Erzya dialect area. Research materials: the article is prepared on the basis of the field materials of the authors collected during the linguistic expeditions on the territory of the Republic of Mordovia and in the places of compact residence of the Erzya people outside the Republic of Mordovia. Results and novelty of the research: in the results of the research the authors identify the structural and morphemic features of the definite declension of the nouns of the Erzya dialect area. It has been found that in the case paradigms of different dialects the realization of morphemes of definiteness and their structure are different.
