Verbs of oscillatory motion in the lexico-semantic system of the Khanty language V. N. Solovar Ob-Ugric Institute of Applied Researches and Development, Khanty-Mansiysk, Russian Federation, [email protected]
ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the reveal of the national specificity of representation of the oscillatory and vibrating motion in the Khanty linguoculture. The sememic, componential and comparative analyses of the meaning of a lexeme are used in the article. There is no complete list of such verbs and description of their compatibility on the material of the Khanty language to the present time. Verbs of oscillatory motion mean the movement in one spot from side to side or from up to down. The essence of oscillatory motion is the cyclic deviation of the object (its state) from the point of balance.
Objective: to determine the composition and structure of the group of verbs of oscillatory motion, description of semantics, mechanisms of its change, identification of parameters specific for the Khanty language. The results of the research can be used in typological researches of the closely related and multi-structural languages, as well as for creation of scientific grammar of the Khanty language. Research materials: verbs of oscillatory motion of the Khanty language (Kazym, Shuryshkar, Uralic, Surgut dialects), collected by the author from the informants and extracted from Khanty texts and bilingual dictionaries.
Results and novelty of the research: the analysis of the meanings of verbs showed that in the Khanty language it is possible to distinguish four main zones of oscillation: oscillation of pendulum-shaped objects; oscillation of objects fixed by one of their ends; oscillation of movable non-rigid objects having a point of reference; the topological type of the oscillation situation. The parameters observed in the Khanty language coincide with the main parameters of the oscillatory situation in the German languages (German and English), Russian and Polish, namely: the softness/rigidness of the object, the presence of a point of reference during the oscillation, the parameter of instability and the topological type of the oscillatory situation (horizontal/vertical object, the oscillation on the support surface, small oscillations of all parts of the subject), the oscillation due to external influence (physical). Key words: lexical-semantic group (LSG), verb, oscillatory motion, lexeme, semantic analyses, differential feature, categorical feature, valence.
Acknowledgments: I express my gratitude to the anonymous reviewers, as well as to all my informants, who are fluent in the Khanty language and feel the subtleties of the meanings of its words.
