Scientific research of the indigenous people of the North in the Arctic Districts of Yakutia in the 1980th of XX century

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article presents a pioneering attempt in the Russian historiography for a scientific analysis of research activities on the study of indigenous people of the North living in the Arctic Districts of Yakutia in the 1980s. Objective: to reconstruct the history of realization of research initiatives; to identify their values and the main features.
Research materials: the research is based on the involving a range of source materials stored in the archives of Yakutsk, Saint-Petersburg and Moscow, as well as scientific literature.
Results and novelty of the research: the author has identified and examined the main research initiatives implemented in Polar Yakutia in the designated chronological framework. In this regard, their personal composition, conducting methods, geography and main directions are indicated. The main provisions developed by the participants of these initiatives are considered. The author has found that under the influence of the development of scientific thought and research methodology, as well as changes in the socially-political situation in the Soviet Union in the 1980s. of XX century, in the «structure» of research activities relating to the indigenous people of the North of Yakutia, major changes have taken place. During this period, the first in the history of genetic and demographic research, the original and Kolyma linguistic-ethnographic expedition were conducted, as well as a scientific report “Nature and Trends in the Development of Socially-Cultural and Language Processes among the Nationalities of the North of Yakutia” has been prepared, which in fact has become a «bridge» connecting two periods in assessing the influence of Soviet practices on the fate of aboriginal ethnicities of the Arctic. At the same time, the «traditional» directions of the researches related to folklore and the indigenous languages were developed, although here, as it was established, the fourth complex folklore expedition stands apart in historical retrospect.
