ABSTRACT
Introduction: in the article as a pictorial and historical-ethnographic source the engravings of C. Roth in the framework of the academic edition of I. G. Georgi are considered.
Objective: to disclose the historical significance and originality of engravings by C. Roth, reflecting the images of the Ob Ugrians using a visual form.
Research materials: the engravings of Christopher C. Roth, published in the edition by of I. G. Georgi.
Results and scientific novelty: the representation of images of Ob Ugrians in academic publications of the second half of the XVIII century, in particular in engravings by C. Roth, is a poorly studied topic, both in terms of the availability of relevant historical and ethnographic studies, and in terms of analyzing the iconographic form of works. The article touches on the historical context of the creation of engravings by C. Roth; the sources used to create them are analyzed; the connections of the image with the text are revealed, and an iconological analysis of the works, reflecting the images of the Ob Ugrians, is carried out. Scientific novelty lies in the study of the visual representation of the Ob Ugrians in academic publications of the second half of the XVIII century, using the engravings of Christopher Roth as an example.
