ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article for the first time considers the semantics and syntactic compatibility of Khanty and Mansi verbs of different lexical-semantic groups of action, movement, joining, compound, etc. with the preverbs jӑχa / ńŏλa / akwan ‘together’. The most complete list of verbs combined with these preverbs in different dialects of the Khanty and Mansi languages are revealed. The change in the valence system of verbs when combined with these preverbs was described, as well as the modification of the semantics of verbs while maintaining the valence system. The similarities in the semantics of
synonymous preverbs jӑχa and vөtschа are established when expressing spatial meanings.
Objective: to describe the circle of verbs combined with the preverbs jӑχa / ńŏλa / akwan and to compare the system of valences and the syntactic compatibility of verbs with these preverbs in the Khanty and Mansi languages.
Research materials: verbs with the preverbal units jӑχa / ńŏλa /akwan of the Kazym, Shuryshkar, Ural, and Surgut dialects of the Khanty language and the Mansi language received by the author from informants and extracted from the dictionaries of the Khanty and Mansi languages.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the most complete list of verbs of different lexical-semantic groups combined with the preverbs jӑχa / ńŏλa / akwan was revealed. It has been established that these preverbal are attached mainly to verbs of action, compound and movement. In the result of attachment of the preverb the number of valences of derived verbs can either be preserved or decrease. Verbs of the lexical-semantic group of movement lose their locative valence; verbs of joining do not change valence; valence of verbs of action can be maintained or decreased. The change of
verbs valence of occurs due to the syntactic compatibility of a verb with different types of subjects and objects (animate, inanimate objects). The results of the work can be used to compile dictionaries, comparison of related and different-structured languages, as well as for writing the scientific grammar of the Khanty language.
Key words: preverb, valence, lexical-semantic group, verbs of joining, verbs of compound, verbs of action
Acknowledgements: the author expresses the gratitude to the anonymous reviewers, as well as to all his informants who speak the Khanty language.
