Objective: to identify the thematic and genre originality of the poetic heritage of I. Osmukhin.
Research materials: poetry collections of I. Osmukhin.
Results and novelty of the research: the scientific novelty of the article is due to the fact that it represents the first experience of a comprehensive study of the features of I. Osmukhin’s poetry. It was found that, first of all, the poet is at the origin of the national children’s poetry, introducing a child to the beauty of the Mordovian region. Rejecting the didactic component, the poet focuses on the discovery and comprehension of the universe’s secrets, the ability to see the big in the small and insignificant. The special effect is created with the use of description of sounds, brightness of details. Secondly, the poetic innovation of I. Osmukhin is in the genre aspect: unlike Mordovian contemporary poets, he develops not an epic poem, but small forms of lyrics - an elegy, a lyrical poem, a poetic fragment, where the dominating topos is a House with images of mother, father, historical past, signs of a small homeland, rural life, etc. Working in the flush of socialist realism, the poet managed to avoid the dominant ideological pathos and cliche: romantic tonality in his lyrics is combined with elegiac and philosophical motifs. Thirdly, the poet was at the origins of the thematic book of poems’ formation in national poetry as a special genre form.
Key words: Russian poetry of Mordovia, I. G. Osmukhin, genre synthesis, book of poems, thematic diversity, motif, style, lyrical hero
