ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the study of the semantic structure of the verbs hătshchәty / ԓavəsԓəta ‘to hit’; it examines the basic semantic features of verbs, their polysemy and the role in the formation of secondary meanings associated with abstract actions and states in the Kazym and Surgut dialects of the Khanty language.
Objective: to identify the cognitive mechanisms of the polysemy of the verbs hătshchәty / ԓavəsԓəta ‘to hit in the Khanty language; to establish patterns of their semantic development and metaphorical transfer.
Research materials: dictionaries of the Khanty language; texts of folklore collections; field materials of the author.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, based on the Surgut and Kazym dialects of the Khanty language, the systematization and clarification of semantics of these lexemes is carried out; their direct and figurative meanings are analyzed; patterns of semantic shifts and their connection with the cultural and linguistic picture of the Khanty world are revealed. The results demonstrate how a specific physical action acquires abstract meanings. In the Surgut dialect, the verb ԓavəsԓəta retains an exclusively direct meaning, which indicates the dialectal specificity of semantic derivation. In the
Kazym dialect, the verb hătshchәty acquires metaphorical meanings associated with physiological conditions (pain, skin color change), natural phenomena (weather, ripening of berries) and sound perception.
