ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article examines the official representation of the image of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug in the anniversary collection of the 1980 edition, as a developing oil industry center of the state, preserving the Ob-Ugric flavor. It shows the general and special features of this representation among other similar ones presented to a reader in 1941–1970.
Objective: to define the image of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug in the presentation of the official anniversary edition of 1980 in the context of the Soviet period of history.
Research materials: the anniversary collections of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug of the 1941–1980.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the article examines the official image of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug, presented in the special anniversary edition of 1980 “The Renewed Land”. The image of the oil industry center that developed in the 1970s, on the one hand, loses its aura of novelty, on the other, in comparison with the representation of the 1960s and despite the impending crisis phenomena, it looks dynamic, with broad prospects for industrial development. The image of the Okrug in the 1970s includes a change of emphasis in the traditional Soviet set of ideologies, and the
integration of indigenous peoples into industrial society, represented, among other things, on a personal level, applied not only to scientific and creative intelligentsia, but also to industrial workers from among indigenous peoples. The significance of “The Renewed Land” is that it is the last experience of the Soviet representation of the image of the Okrug in the format of a special anniversary edition. The results can be used in the preparation of textbooks on the history of Soviet Yugra, in modern branding experiences of the Okrug.
Key words: image of Khanty-Mansiysk Okrug, Soviet northern discourse, analysis of vocabulary, text, “culture national in form and socialist in content”
