Woman’s character in Z. V. Longortova’s novel “The Tracery of Deer Trails”

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article examines the characteristics of women characters in Z. V. Longortova’s novel “The Tracery of Deer Trails” and fits into a comprehensive body of research in Russian literary criticism addressing the issue of national worldviews.
Objective: to identify the characteristics of women characters in Z. V. Longortova’s novel “The Tracery of Deer Trails”.
Research materials: Z. V. Longortova’s novel “The Tracery of Deer Trails”.
Results and novelty of the research: the article presents the first comprehensive study of woman’s character traits in Z. V. Longortova’s novel “The Tracery of Deer Trails”. The concept of the work is that the female character is a synthesis of archetypal national characteristics, conditioned by the traditional cultural ethnic code, and universal human traits. The individual uniqueness and undeniable authenticity of the female protagonists’ national identity allows us to introduce the term “ethnocharacter”, which denotes the fundamental conceptual
meaning of the Khanty woman’s character in the analyzed work, embodied in the unique traditional values of a particular ethnic group and its cultural universals. Archetypal woman’s character traits, including the primary ethno-gender nature of a woman’s responsibilities in a
Khanty family, also contain universal categories – motherhood, patience, obedience to the will of her parents, and keeper of the hearth. Her responsibilities include preserving the cultural values of her people and passing on traditions from generation to generation, which
acquire universal significance.
