ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article explores the intellectual potential of Yugra’s population in the pre-war and wartime periods (1930–1945s): it identifies the problems of population intellectualization, the mechanisms of the educated stratum formation, and the dynamics of the
growth / decline of the specialist personnel.
Objective: to reveal the process of population intellectualization and assess the Yugra’ intellectual potential.
Research materials: works by domestic and foreign researchers, and documents from central and regional archives.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the process of population intellectualization has been analyzed, taking into account a complex of factors that influenced the formation of the Yugra population’ intellectual potential in the pre-war and wartime
periods. The data have been systematized. The number of individual groups of specialists in the production and non-production sectors, their educational level, and the dynamics of the number of specialists by using a comparative analysis of sources and, in some cases, direct
calculations, have been identified. The contribution of regional educational institutions to the training of specialists has been determined, and the significant role of educated individuals among the evacuated citizens in replenishing the ranks of specialists during wartime has
been highlighted. The conclusion has been formulated about the initial stage of the formation of the national intelligentsia. The prospects for the development of the topic have been determined.
