About the grammatical status of the word-forms with the suffix -nek in the Erzya language

ABSTRACT
Introduction: up to date, some Mordovian word-forms are the subjects of continuous debates among the experts of Mordovian linguistic. Among these word-forms we found the forms with the suffix -nek which have an ambiguous linguistic status. The article considers the views of researchers on this suffix as well as the semantics of the meanings expressed through it. A special attention is focused on the analysis of this suffix in terms of history.
Objective: to research the grammatical status of these units and historical ways of development of this suffix.
Research materials: the works of domestic and foreign specialists in Finno-Ugric studies; the works of Mordovian writers and the Erzya dialects have been used as practical materials.
Results and novelty of the research: the article considers the meanings of the word-forms with the suffix -nek in the Erzya language. The author has summarized the views of scientists on these forms and analyzed the suffix in terms of historical context in comparison with other Finno-Ugric languages. The collected material can allow getting some new information about the word formation capabilities and morphological categories of the language and can help to solve some controversial problems of Mordovian linguistics, including the problem of differentiation of the forms of word formation and morphogenesis.
