ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the study of phonetic features of the Sundukovo subdialect of the Malopurginsky District of the Udmurt Republic. Special attention is paid to linguistic phenomena that bring this dialect closer to the Northern Udmurt dialects, on the one hand, and the Southern Udmurt dialects, on the other. There are also specific features in the field of vocalism and consonantism that distinguish the studied dialect from other territorial varieties of the Udmurt language.
Objective: to determine the features of the vocal and consonant system of the Sundukovo subdialect of the Udmurt language at the present stage of its development.
Research material: folklore texts collected by the authors during dialectological expeditions in 2019–2023.
Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the study provides a comprehensive historical and linguistic analysis of the phonetic structure of the Sundukovo village subdialect in the Malopurginsky District of the Udmurt Republic. According to the most characteristic features, at the present stage of its development, this dialect is close, on the one hand, to the Northern dialect, especially to the Lower Cheptsa subdialects, as indicated by such phenomena as: 1) the correspondence of the vowels y // i and i // y in the index of the elative; 2) the functioning of the affricate ts in place of the generally accepted literary, as well as characteristic for the Southern dialect zone instead of the affricate ch. On the other hand, some features of the Sundukovo subdialect are close to the Southern dialect, for example, the functioning of the indicator of the elative on -is’ in the speech of the older generation.
The specific phenomena of the Sundukovo subdialect include the following: 1) the loss of a group of sounds on -is’k in the verbs of the present and past tense of the I and II persons, both singular and plural; 2) the loss of the vowel y in infinitive verb forms and in adverbs; 3) the functioning of the affricates dʒ/, /dӠ/, /tʃ/, /t∫/ in an-, in- and auslaut positions of a word.
