ABSTRACT
Introduction: the ancient settlement Sherkaly 1 is the original and unique monument of archaeology of theLower Ob region near the settlement Sherkaly in Oktyabrsky District of Kkanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug –Yugra. It refers to the period when Yugra,according to written sources, was the parish of Veliky Novgorod. Theresults of archaeological excavations of 1978–1983 on this object considerably allocate it among monuments of thelate Middle Ages in the Lower Ob.
Objective: systematization of historical and archaeological information about the ancient settlement ofSherkaly 1, introduction to scientific circulation of the results of field archaeological research conducted in 2018.
Research materials: written sources of the XVII–XIX centuries on the history of the Lower Ob region, theresults of archaeological research of the ancient settlement Sherkaly 1 of 1948–2018 years from the archives ofthe Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ural Federal University, Center of CulturalHeritage of Yugra, scientific publications and field research of the authors.
Results and novelty of the research: the article systematizes historical information and results ofarchaeological research of the settlement Sherkaly 1; introduces into scientific circulation new materials thatreflect historical and cultural processes that occurred ain the Lower Ob region from the end of the I century tothe XII-XVI centuries ad. For the first time the article presents the classified results of archaeological research in1979–1983, as well as field research in 2018.
