ABSTRACT
Introduction: modern Finno-Ugric literary criticism recognizes the axiological principle of a literary text as one of the relevant aspects of the study, which allows us to form a well-defined idea of the axiological content of the worldview as a separate creative personality and the artistic worldview characteristic of the literature of the people as a whole. The subject of the research is the axiological principles of the existence of conscience as a moral consciousness of a person in the prose of the Khanty writer Yeremey Aypin; the peculiarity of the embodiment of the understanding of
conscience and the attitude towards it of both the author and his characters.
Objective: to discover in the writer’s literary texts the moments of existence, the embodiment of conscience as a psychological category; to analyze the different understanding of its assessment, role, significance and relevance in the life of a person, people, state, both by the author and his characters, as a manifestation of the originality of the national consciousness of the northern people.
Research materials: prose works by Ye. D. Aypin, in which the category of conscience is most expressively represented.
Results and novelty of the research: the author analyzes the presence and author’s understanding of conscience and its role in the life of both the human community and an individual in the author’s version, which is represented by the specific artistic texts of the Khanty writer. As a result of the conducted historical and cultural analysis with elements of structural analysis, as well as with an appeal to the method of descriptive poetics, a conclusion was made according to which the existence and understanding of conscience in the prose of Yeremey Aypin has semantic diversity, acts as a fundamentally
important sign consistently reflecting the author’s worldview and intentions, largely forming the content structure of works, creating ideological and symbolic code. Such a code includes the characterization of conscience as an individual and personal principle, in which it is possible to identify national peculiarities of vision, understanding of oneself in the concrete historical space of the current time, as part of the national picture of the world explicated in the text, which is based on social, spiritual, moral, aesthetic traditions and ideas. The scientific novelty of the article is determined by the fact that conscience as a component of the artistic picture of the world in the writer’s prose and in Khanty literature in general, has not been analyzed before, especially in the axiological aspect.
Key words: axiology, conscience, worldview, prose heroes, value of conscience
