Abstract. The article deals with the concept «diston» as a typical one for the Udmurt mentality. The author discloses the semantics of the concept including bravery with cold intention, courage by mind dictation and decisiveness. «Diston» (bravery) is opposed to timidity, shyness, uncertainty and diffi dence. The synonyms and word-formative row of lexeme are given also.
