ABSTRACT
Introduction: the paper deals with the designations of the forest landscape in the Udmurt language as a separate microsystem in the landscape vocabulary of the land, which has its own structural organization, its own composition of the objects of the nomination and a specific set of lexical means intended for their designation. This lexical-thematic group is analyzed with the use of several classification criteria developed by the author – on substantive features, on the subject-conceptual content of nominative units, on internal and external sources of formation and development of the object under study.
Objective: to establish the features that distinguish the forest landscape designations from other components of the land vocabulary of the Udmurt language; to determine the composition of the studied group of names and to systematize it; to establish the origins and main stages of the formation and development of this microsystem.
Research materials: the main source of factual material was the vocabulary of the Udmurt language found in lexicographical publications. Additional data were obtained from a survey of some Udmurt speakers by a specially designed questionnaire.
Results and novelty of the research: the linguistic analysis of one of the components of the landscape vocabulary of the land of the Udmurt language was for the first time made. The study showed that it has ancient sources, the designations of primordial origin make its basis. The foreign-language component of the forest landscape designations, formed as a result of the contacts of the Udmurts with representatives of neighboring peoples, consists of a small number of late borrowings, penetrated from three external sources. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the technology of development of this topic, created by the author, can be used on the material of other related and unrelated languages.
Key words: the Udmurt language, vocabulary, designations of the forest landscape, primordial fund, borrowings.
