ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the study of industrial fishery of the Northern Selkups. In the framework of the evolutionary concept of culture of L. White, the development of Selkup industrial fishery is considered as an energy process of developing of the Arctic lands and technological adaptation of the Selkups to the harsh natural conditions of the North.
Objective: to consider the qualitative leap that industrial fishery of the Northern Selkups has made at the present stage in the chronological framework of the first fifteen years of XXI century.
Research materials: the article is written on the field materials of the author and on the basis of archival sources. The reference point in the topic space was a series of publications on the problems of Selkup fishery.
Results and scientific novelty: in the first fifteen years of XXI century in the industrial fishery of the Northern Selkups, the second energy/technological revolution took place. Unlike the first one, connected with the use of steam and motor engines in fishery, the second revolution was caused by use of refrigeration and freezing equipment. This high-tech equipment transformed the energy of fuel into energy of cold and frost. This allowed solving the problem of conservation of catches in Selkup fishery. The consequence of the second energy revolution was an increase of the volumes of produced fish by the Selkups twice that in the Soviet era. This increase has led to an improvement of financial situation of fishermen and their families working in industrial fishery, as well as it has changed entire Selkup culture. The novelty of the research is that the modern industrial fishery of the Selkups has not been considered.
Key words: the Selkups, industrial fishery, energy, refrigerating and freezing equipment, state support of indigenous peoples of the North, level of well-being, cultural development, scientific and technological revolution.
