ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to substantiation of connection between the original vocabulary of the Khanty language and the family names of the Kazym Khanty. Some of the Khanty family names came from Russian baptismal names and words of Turkic languages. But most names were formed by the original vocabulary of the Khanty language.
Objective: to identify and describe the Khanty vocabulary, which served as the material basis for the creation of Khanty family names, in structural-semantic and historical-cognitive aspects.
Research materials: the family names of the Kazym Khanty identified by historians and ethnographers (known from the beginning of the XVII century).
Results and novelty of the research: the article defines motivating words which are the basis for the formation of Khanty family names. The original lexical units are distributed into six semantic groups: physical, physiological, psychological and social characteristics of a person; phenomena of inanimate nature; various types of landscape; objects of everyday life and economic activity; representatives of fauna, their habits; abstract concepts. It is revealed that four groups are basic: the lexemes included in them are the most productive in the formation of names. For the first time, linguistically justified
versions of the origin of the Khanty anthroponyms that make up the main category of the family fund are presented in the work. It is established that the overwhelming share of the family names of the Kazym Khanty go back to the original words of the Khanty language, denoting the properties (qualities) of a person, objects and phenomena of inanimate nature, place of residence (details of the landscape) and objects of everyday life and economic activity.
Key words: onomastics, anthroponyms, family names, principles of nomination, base semantics, Khanty language.270
Acknowledgements: the author expresses gratitude to the reviewer of the article.
