Abstract. The article deals with the problem of formation of the genre of historical novel in Russian literature of 1830-ies. The concept of historical narration is formed in the creative work of I.I. Lazhechnikov and M.N. Zagoskin. The author defi nes the infl uence of historical anecdote on the subject, the system of images, the principles of organization of artistic time and space in the novels «Ice House» of Lazhechnikov and «Roslavlev, or the Russians in 1812» of Zagoskin.
