ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article presents a semantic and cognitive analysis of two hydronyms – Ob and Vakh, which are the most used in the poetic texts of Vladimir Mazin. Text implementations (connotations) of both these words themselves and adjective names derived from them are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to figurative understanding of the names of two large rivers of Western Siberia in verses of Vladimir Mazin.
Objective: to describe and identify semantic, cognitive and linguoculturological features of the use of the hydronyms Ob and Vakh in the works of the Yugra poet Vladimir Mazin.
Research materials: the poetic works of Vladimir Mazin – a native of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.
Results and novelty of the research: the relevance of the theme is determined by the fact that the semantic and cognitive prerequisites of the appearance of semantic depth, ambiguity and imagery of a word are not yet sufficiently studied in Ob- Ugric linguistics. As a result of the study, we analyzed the semantic connotations of two specialized words (hydronyms), and determined their role in the poetic text. The text implementations of the words Ob and Vakh (and their derivatives) are described from different points of view (angles): as designations of the certain rivers, as addressees of appeals by a man,
and as markers of the poet’s feelings. It was revealed that the use of the toponyms in poetic discourse helps to create the specific picture (a bright fragment of perceived reality) and allows reflecting the peculiar aura of the surrounding world. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that in the poetry of Vladimir Mazin, the authors identified those signs of geographical objects that became most important for creating the aesthetics of the work and for expressing human feelings.
Key words: hydronyms, Ob, Vakh, poetic text, Vladimir Mazin, nominal word, word functions, semantics
