Abstract. For a long time the indigenous small peoples of the North have been in the interests of only ethnographers. But during the last two decades there was a considerable shift of the experts’ interests towards the problems of development of the traditional economy, demography, health of northern people that is connected, first of all, with the intensive industrial development of the North and its negative consequences for the indigenous population.
