Khanty musical folklore in the academic edition

Abstract:The article is devoted to the description of the musical material, which will be published in two volumes of Khanty folklore: «The Bear’s Holiday of the Kazym Khanty» and «Myths, legends, fairytales of the Khanty». Currently, these books are being prepared for publication in the academic bilingual series «Monuments of folklore of the peoples of Siberia and the Far East». The employees of sector of folklore of peoples of Siberia of the Institute of Philology of the Siberian branch of RAS (Novosibirsk) together with researchers and research institutions from other regions engaged in the preparation of the series. The main principle of the series is the complex nature of the publication. Monuments of folklore are published in the form of text, in music decryptions, in sound- and video recordings. Researchers who specialized on folklor, linguistics, ethnomusicology, ethnography are engaged in research of the monuments. Fully decrypted rite held in the village of Kazym in 2002 will be published in the volume «The Bear’s Holiday of the Kazym Khanty». The length of the audiogram of this rite is 27 hours. All the singing texts (including epicmythological songs, prayer songs, etc.), as well as the performance skits, which use different types of intonation, will be provided with the musical notation. The author reasons in the article how much detailed and how complete the music transcriptions should be presented in this volume and where they can be located. The article gives a description of the phono-materials of the volume «Myths, legends, fairytales of the Khanty» and the history of the formation of the database of audio sources is described. Because the amount of musical material in this volume is quite small, the author considers it appropriate to search of variants of the texts included in this volume among the available audio and music materials in order to fully describe the role of the musical component in the Khanty narrative folklore.
