ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the poorly studied sphere of Udmurt and Finno-Ugric literary studies the artistic heritage of Mikhail Petrovich Petrov (1905-1955) during the Great Patriotic War. The paper reveals the peculiarities of the problem of «man in war» in the writer’s publicistic prose; the authors’ attention is focused on the close connection between the content and aesthetic aspects of the essay genre and essay-story.
Objective: to reveal the specifics of the essay genre in the military works of front-line writer M. Petrov, to describe such principles of his publicism as the combination of documentary and artistic, typification of images and speech system.
Research materials: essays and short stories of M. Petrov, published with the books «Uj chozhe» («One night», 1943) and «Ulon ponna» («In the name of life», 1948).
Results and novelty of the research: the article for the first time discusses the features of poetics and the main artistic elements of military essays and short stories of M. Petrov, the features of the author’s approach to the image of man in the war and the foundations of his character are studied. M. Petrov’s essays recreate the fate of the people during the Great Patriotic War. As a direct participant of the tactical activities, the author depicts the front-line everyday life of the Red Army soldiers on the basis of personal impressions, he shows their way of life and heroism. Since in recent years the events of the Great Patriotic War are distorted in favor of various political attitudes, the study of the works of front-line writers, witnesses of the fighting acquires new relevance and importance.
