ABSTRACT
Introduction: ethnochoreography of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East is a little-studied part of the spiritual culture of autochthonous ethnic groups. The article examines the contribution to the northern ethnochronography of the famous Russian choreographer, Director, ethnomusicologist and theatrical stage artist T. F. Petrova-Bytova. The memoirs of Tatyana Fyodorovna’s students and followers are given, in which her personal and business qualities, methods of stage processing, teaching and organization of ethnic choreography are revealed. Her experience in creating national dance ensembles and organizing amateur performances in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug is shown.
Objective: to reveal the significance of T. F. Petrova-Bytova’s contribution to the formation and development of northern ethnochoreography.
Research materials: published works of T. F. Petrova-Bytova, publications of teaching aids for school teachers and amateur art circles, and field observations of the author.
Results and novelty of the research: the article examines the creative way of T. F. Petrova-Bytova from dance recordings to complex compositions – song and choreographic suites – evidence of the rich creative potential of ethnohoreography, songs, pantomime, theatrical and spectacular action in the syncretism of music, dance, song, playing national instruments, throathoarseness, onomatopoeia of natural phenomena, animals and birds, etc. T. F. Petrova-Bytova, applying the methodology of musical movement, developed a new direction in ethnohoreography – scenic dance of the peoples of the North, having proved herself as an outstanding researcher, choreographer and artist. The scientific novelty of the work is determined by the fact that for the first time in diachronic aspect, the analysis of the creativity of T. F. Petrova-Bytova in the context of the history of the northern ethnochoreography of Russia is carried out. The sources of talent, the role and significance of the contribution of a prominent Russian ethnohoreographer to the development of culture and art of the peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East, including the Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation, are investigated. The article for the first time studies the integral system of choreographic preparation and staging of dances, suites by T. F. Petrova-Bytova, and also presents rare photographs from the author’s personal archive.
Key words: ethnochoreography, ethnography, traditional dances, peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.
