Abstract. The article is devoted to the investigation of the concept pancake in the worldview of the Mari through the prism of language and culture by analyzing the following means of representation: a dictionary definition, proverbs, sayings, songs, literary texts. This concept is among the oldest and most important in the minds and culture of the Mari people. Pancakes have not been everyday food, they were considered as the food which was gotten by the sweat of the brow. According to proverbs, pancakes meant prosperity. Pancakes are baked in honor of our dear guests, on holidays, they are compulsory attribute on religious holidays and prayers, and they are also a ceremonial food.
