Prediction and forecasting as a function of scientifi c knowledge in the study of socio-economic phenomena

Abstract. The author of the article attempts to examine the prognostic function of scientific knowledge, to touch upon the philosophical problem of prediction and forecasting and to highlight the fundamental approaches for solving this problem. The author considers the processes of forecasting and prediction through the prism of the philosophical paradigm, attempts to identify the most effective general methods of prediction and their substantiation as one of the functions of scientific knowledge. The author touches upon the issues of fundamental theoretical studies of the processes of forecasting and planning in the conditions of Russian reality.
