Abstract:At present time among the relevant problems of national literature study of the Volga region and the Urals the key problem is the study of the specifics of external and immanent factors of the evolution of regional artistic literature and periodization of the literary process, which is closely related to development of social consciousness and socio-economic dynamics of Russia’s multi-ethnic society. The purpose of this article is not so much a representation of the model of periodization of the literary system of the Republic of Mordovia, as the intensification of the controversy on this issue, the concentration of literary thought on its decision, development of common principles and criteria of periodization that will have productive impact on the development of related methodological problems of the theoretical history of national literature – comparative and historical study of the Mordovian literature in the context of the artistic cultures of the Volga region and the Urals, the formation of a comparative approach to the study of national literatures, the scrupulous understanding of the separate historical and literary epochs putting their genres, styles, themes, problems, the question about the national picture of the world (identity of the verbal culture of the Erzya and Moksha) and ethno-poetic arsenal of its reconstruction, mental and spiritual factors, understanding of native poetics and ethno-aesthetic of prose, poetry, and drama in different periods of socio-cultural evolution, the unique experience of an individual creative identity, etc. The author of the article focused on the synthesis of the immanent factors of the development of national artistic tradition and extraliterary (socio-political, socio-historical changes) and refused the gross sociological approach to literature.
