To the question about basic color terms of modern Mansi language: anthropological and lingual-culturological approaches

Abstract:The article on the basis of anthropological and cultural approaches describes the results of the study with the purpose of identification of the basic color terms in modern Mansi language. The relevance of the theme is primarily determined by the fact that the color terms of Mansi language have not been the objects of special study. In connection with the purpose of the research the following specific objectives were achieved: 1) in accordance with the theory of B. Berlin and P. Kay about the universal character of the evolution of the colors names three major color terms were revealed in Mansi language among all variety of these terms: yangk ‘white’, semyl ‘black’ and vygyr ‘red’; 2) lingual-culturological description of these color names were presented. The subjects of the study are the names of the color in Mansi language fixed in dictionaries, folklore collections and own card index obtained in process of working with informants. The practical value of this study is in the fact that all collected and systematized material, as well as the results of the study will contribute to the further study of linguocultural picture of the world of the Mansi, reflecting the ethnic mentality of this people.
