ABSTRACT
Introduction: Vladimir Vladykin is an outstanding researcher and ethnographer from the Udmurt Republic, whose works have received recognition in the scientific community both in Russia and abroad. His poetic legacy occupies a special place in Udmurt literature. For his literary activity, he chose the pseudonym Omel Ladi, which reflects his ethnicity. Vladykin speaks several languages, but prefers to write poetry in Udmurt and Russian. To date, two of his books have been published: “Marly Kirja Tyuragai” (“Why Does the Tyuragay Sing”, 1980) and “Kalykyn Veralo” (“The People Say”, 1998). Both editions are examples of the author’s bilingual creativity. In these books, poems and prose works are presented in Udmurt with parallel translations into Russian. This form of text presentation vividly demonstrates the features of the poetics of Vladykin’s literary bilingualism and reveals the specifics of the transmission of a foreign language context in his Russian-language poems, in particular, mythopoeic imagery.
Objective: to reveal the peculiarities of the national picture of the world in Russian-language lyrics by V. Vladykin, associated with a deep layer of archaic meanings of the native (Udmurt) culture.
Research materials: poems by the Udmurt poet V. Vladykin.
Results and novelty of the research: the relevance and scientific novelty of the article is determined by the insufficient study of V. Vladykin’s poetic work and the first detailed analytical reading of his Russian poetry from the point of view of the religious and mythological images associated with Udmurt culture played out in it. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the author in his poems recreated the most ancient archetypal views of his people, preserved in parables and legends, conveyed a deep meaning of folklore and ethnographic information, referring to the color symbols and key ethnic components of Udmurt mythology. Such information will help expand the Russian-speaking reader’s understanding of the writer’s ethnic worldview.
Key words: mythopoeic imagery, ethnic picture of the worldview, national culture, Udmurt poetry
