The role of cultural institutions in preservation of Finno-Ugric languages (on the example of the Republic of Karelia)

Abstract. Introduction: the article considers the questions of preservation of language and culture of one of indigenous peoples of the Republic of Karelia. In the best way language and culture are preserved in national districts and in rural settlements. Institutions of culture carry out the active work for preservation of language and culture. For years of reforms there was a number of destructive transformations on rural areas; the result of it is that young people leaves rural areas. But the youth is the basic carrier of the human capital. Hence, development of rural territories and, as a result, preservation of language and culture is possible, if the youth
will stay in rural areas. Objective: to research of a role of institutions of culture in preservation of national culture and autochthonous Karelian language. Research materials: the article is constructed on the basis of the data of the state statistics with the use of sociological instruments (sociological survey, semi-structured interviews).
Results and novelty of the research: the article is an interdisciplinary research; for the first time the economists have paid attention to the problems of revitalization of language and culture. The author attempted to collect together unique experience of the institutions of culture in national districts of the Republic of Karelia. Unfortunately, in present time institutions of culture, especially in rural settlements, have no possibility to communicate and adopt experience each other.
