ABSTRACT
Introduction: the presented article is a comprehensive study of one of the groups of discursive words – particles – in the Tver dialect of the proper Karelian dialect of the Karelian language.
Objective: to consider the semantic groups of particles functioning in the Tver dialect of the proper Karelian dialect of the Karelian language; to determine their origin.
Research materials: dictionaries of the Karelian language.
Results and novelty of the research: about 70 particles (including phonetic variations) extracted from dialect dictionaries of the Karelian language and samples of Karelian speech were found in the Tver dialect. Their functional and semantic classification is presented. The etymological analysis revealed that more than 30 particles are not native in nature, being borrowings from the Russian language, although some particulars date back to the Baltic-Finnish language-base. With a few exceptions, the particles are simple in structure; cases of formation of one particle from two elementary particles are generally not typical for the Karelian language. The novelty of the study lies in the fact that for first time a comprehensive analysis of Karelian particles (based on the material of the Tver dialect) is conducted. The practical significance of the Karelian particles obtained during the semantic and etymological analysis lies in the relevance of the results for the development of the methodology of comparative typological research and the development of university and school textbooks on the grammar of the Tver dialect.
Key words: Karelian language, Tver dialect, morphology, syntax, auxiliary parts of speech, particles
