Introduction: the subject of the analysis in the article is the comparison with the ichthyological component as a means of creating an image in prose of R. P. Rugin.
Objective: to consider comparisons with the ichthyological component as a means of creating an image in the literary texts of the Khanty writer.
Research materials: the material for the study was the prose works of the Khanty writer Roman Prokopevich Rugin. The paper uses a set of modern approaches to literary analysis of the text.
Results and scientific novelty: the novelty of the research is determined by the lack of research into the poetics of R. P. Rugin’s literary texts. In the modern Finno-Ugric literary studies the works of researchers on this topic are unique. R. P. Rugin, as has already developed in the Khanty literature, creates images with minimal portrait features, not characteristic details expressed through comparison. One of the common components of the comparison result ihtionism. It is revealed that when creating the image of the writer uses the most often two representatives of the ichthyofauna, namely burbot and sturgeon. Turning to the creation of comparisons with the ichthyological component, the writer managed to convey not only the external similarity of the characters with the representatives of the ichthyofauna, but also to embody the traits, gestures, behavior, physical condition of the characters.
Key words: R. P. Rugin, prose, comparisons, ichthyological component, image, Khanty literature, FinnoUgric literature.
