ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article is devoted to the consideration of the comic discourse in the modern Mordovian short story. The subjects of analysis are methods and means of creating a comic effect in the stories by N. Ishutkin. The problems actualized in the work fit into the complex of studies of modern Finno-Ugric literary criticism.
Objective: to analyze the artistic techniques and modeling tools of the comic effect in the stories by N. Ishutkin.
Research materials: humorous stories by N. Ishutkin.
Results and novelty of the research: the stories by N. Ishutkin for the first time become the object of scientific reflection and are introduced into the context of Finno-Ugric literary criticism. As a result of an analysis
of empirical material, the authors conclude that the poet-lyric poet N. Ishutkin’s appeal in the 1990s to the form of a satirical-humorous story is due to the contradictions of the crisis era, the desire to comprehend life’s
vicissitudes in the forms of humor, satire and irony. Modeling of the comic effect in his stories is based on some kind of inconsistency, deformation of the norm. Inconsistencies are manifested at the linguistic level (play of
words, reservation), at the level of plot construction (unpredictability, unexpectedness, absurdity of depicted situations and circumstances), at the level of character (comic hyperbolization of individual character traits, the
contradiction between the character’s behavior and his opinion about himself). The stories by N. Ishutkin are oriented at the deny of negative social phenomena, ridicule of eternal human vices and weaknesses, which makes
them relevant for a reader.
Key words: N. Ishutkin, the comic, comic effect, Mordovian story, method, character.
Acknowledgements: the author expresses gratitude to the reviewers.
