Abstract. The article deals with the theoretical analysis of the paralinguistic characteristics of speech as a means of nonverbal communication. The article reviews the role and importance of paralinguistic characteristics of speech in the transmission of information about emotions. The author gives the description of the mechanisms of formation and development of perception and understanding of another person’s emotions according to the paralinguistic characteristics of speech.
