ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article presents a lexical and semantic analysis of the toponymy of the Erzya village Starye Sosny of the Klyavlinsky District of Samara Oblast and its environs. This village is one of the oldest Mordovian settlements on the Samara Left Bank of the Volga River, and various aspects of the Erzya dialect of its inhabitants, its toponymy formed additional interest. The results obtained correlate with the materials of the author’s research in other Erzya villages where speakers of the Klyavlin subdialect live, as well as with data on other Mordovian dialects of the Samara Volga Region.
Objective: to identify the main ethno-linguistic components of the toponymy of the village of Starye Sosny and its environs; to determine the place of this toponymy in the system of the Erzya toponymic spaces of the Volga Region.
Research materials: the author’s field materials collected during expeditions to the Erzya settlements of the Klyavlinsky District of Samara Oblast.
Results and novelty of the research: the research allows us to speak about the proximity of the toponymic space of the village of Starye Sosny to the rest of the toponymic spaces of the Klyavlin Mordva people and, more broadly, the Erzya settlements of the Samara Volga Region, to the toponymy of the Erzya people living in other territories. To such characteristic features we can attribute the formularity of geographical names, most of which originate from the Erzya and
Russian languages, Erzya-Russian and Russian-Erzya hybrid toponyms, as well as lexical and semantic coincidences of a number of toponymic units.
