Transformation processes in the modern Erzya family in Russia

Abstract. Introduction: the article presents the results of sociological research. The relevance of the research is determined by transformational processes of a family: distribution of small families with few children, singleparent families, absence of multigenerational families, high rates of migration. Rapid changes leading to crisis of
family as a social institution and a small social-psychological group are characteristic for family. Objective: to reveal the specificity of socio-cultural determination of transformation processes in modern Erzya family and to define prospects of its development. Research materials: object of the research is modern Erzya family. Subject of the research is the sociocultural determination of the transformation processes of modern Erzya family in Russia. Research methods: 1) survey of 319 people in urban and rural settlements of the Republic of Mordovia; 2) eight interviews with representatives of the Erzya people about the biography of their families; 3) secondary analysis of sociological studies.Results and novelty of the research: in the result it was empirically substantiated that the progressive tendencies of transformation of Erzya family from the traditional type to the modern one are determined by preservation of the Erzya language and ethnic traditional culture that is the source of strengthening of family
in Russia as a whole. The author’s project of the target program “Erzya family: traditions and modernity” implemented on the level of national policy of the Republic of Mordovia, as well as the project of the family center at the place of residence with the members of the Erzya families are offered as a complex of measures aimed at stabilization of Erzya family. Scientific novelty of the research consists in the fact that the sociological research in which Erzya family (four generations) appeared as the object of such research for the first time; the specificity and stages of the process of transition of Erzya family from the traditional to the modern type; the author’s system of criteria for
identification of an individual as a representative of the Erzya people was offered; the factors of social culture influenced the Erzya people were revealed.
