On the verge of Siberia: socio-cultural transformation of the images of Yugra

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article analyzes the changes of the perception of space of Yugra, which occurred during the development of the region.
Objective: to reveal the socio-cultural and historical evolution of the images of Yugra. The achievement of this objective is possible during the solution of a number of important tasks. What way the colonization of the region and its images were linked? What are the main stages of changes of the images of Yugra? How did the ratio of general cultural and specific Ugric components in the structure of the image of the region change?
Research materials: are based on the research of folklore about the life of Northern ethnic groups and the Russian population in the territory of Yugra and its adjacent territories from the Middle Ages to the present day; the subject of the research are changes in the perception of spatial images by the public consciousness; the author used the achievements of history, cultural geography, meta-geography, and imagology, as scientific tools.
Results and novelty of the research: the article presents the analysis of the generation and subsequent sociocultural evolution of images of Yugra; during the study of their features a number of the follow trends in the perception of space was revealed: the shift from negativity to positivity, from zoomorphism to anthropomorphism, from the sacred to the profane sources, from one-dimensionality of a text to visual multidimensionality; during the development of the region the certain hierarchical structure of spatial images was gradually developed. These spatial images, layering on each other, had been created a complex fabric of social memory – palimpsest.
