Abstract.In the work based on the materials of sociological research conducted in the settlements of Khanty-Mansiysk district with a compact residence of indigenous peoples of the North, examines the role of the demographic factor in the resilience of indigenous languages. During the analysis the author comes to the conclusion that a large non-population of infl ux and the subsequent assimilation processes autochthonous inhabitants had a negative impact on the status of their ethnic languages. At present time the vast majority of Ob-Ugric peoples of this administrative entity aren’t fl uent in the language.
