Abstract:Travel notes highlight the main points of the ethnolinguistic expedition to the Surgut Khanty, which took place on the territory of the Surgut district of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra in several stages during March, 2017. The expedition was conducted with the aim of collection of factual material to update the data on the culture and language of the Surgut Khanty in available sources and comparative study of the features of Surgut subdialect of Khanty language. During collection of the material in the expedition the traditional methods of field research were used: observation, interviews on different topics, documentation and processing of linguistic material by technical means. The audio-, video- and photo-material was collected during the expedition. This material fixed the modern existence of the language, traditions, culture and everyday life of the Trom-Agan and Pim Khanty, belonging to the Surgut dialectal-ethnographic group. During the expedition the following problems of the indigenous inhabitants of the Surgut district were clearly identified: 1. difficult relationships of the Surgut Khanty, who lead the traditional way of life on the territories of traditional nature management, and representatives of the technological society and administration; 2. Transition of some Khanty people to the new faith, caused by the activities of representatives of the Pentecostalism of Christianity in KhMAO – Yugra; 3. trend of school-age children and youth among the Surgut Khanty to russian-speaking communication. Collected information requires further processing, analysis and interpretation.
Key words: field research, Surgut Khanty, Surgut dialect of Khanty language, Trom-Agan subdialect, Pim subdialect.
