Abstract:This article analyses the problems of language rights of European ethnic minorities in the context of revitalized political movements and social tendencies. The author begins with presenting the current integrational processes (globalization, spread of communicational tools, international migration, etc.) those enforce the political programs of gradual mixture (creolization, hybridization) and unifi cation (uniformization) of minority languages and unique cultures in modern nation states. The author continues with sharing attention to the ever strengthening neo-nationalism and radical political movements in Europe and their political goals on linguistic matters. In this context, large attention is granted to the modern phenomenons (linguistic imperialism, linguistic genocide, linguistic curtailment, linguistic stigmatization, etc.) derived from the asymmetric relations between the offi cial language («state language») and the minority languages.
Keywords: globalisation, postnational constellation, nationalism, language imperialism, linguistic genocide, language rights of minorities, interethnic confl icts.
