Mansi folklore texts in the archive fund of V.N. Chernetsov

Abstract:The article is devoted to the fate of the folk part of the archive of V. N. Chernetsov, presented by the widow of the scientist V. I. Moshinskaya to the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography of Siberia at Tomsk University in 1980. Folklore texts in Mansi language were fixed in the 1930s in the basins of the rivers Konda, Tap, Sosva, Lyapin, Ob and Ivdel District of the Sverdlovsk Oblast. The article provides brief information about the research of V.N. Chernetsov about the Mansi and publications relating to his archive. The work discloses new details of the receipt of archive of the scientist by the author of the article. The article gives a general characterization of the folk part of an archive, consisting of 16 notebookscases; 12 of them have information about the place, time of the text recording and the narrator-informant. The paper outlines the major events related with attempts to organize the publication of the folklore materials of V.N. Chernetsov. In 1984, at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Education of Hungary the copies of all the texts were gave by Tomsk University to the Institute of Ethnography of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for publication, but they were never published until nowadays. Hungarian folklorist E. Schmidt for most of the texts prepared annotations in Russian language, which are stored now in the Beryozovsky Folklore Fund of the Mansi people and which are worthy of a separate publication. In 1996 the part of the folklore texts were copied by E.K. Skribnik, and some of them subsequently were published in Russia and in Germany. At the present negotiations are carried on between the Ob-Ugric Institute of Applied Research and Development and Tomsk State University on a joint publication of folklore materials of V.N. Chernetsov. According to the author of the article mplementation of this project is possible with the condition of publication of the Mansi texts without translation into the Russian language.
