Abstract. The paper deals with the general characteristic of medieval towns of Sogom archaeological district and the preliminary conclusion of accumulated to the present time information, made on the basis of analysis of the monuments’ topography, landscape features, expressed in the relief features and materials obtained during the researches of last years. Sogom medieval settlements according to its external characteristics and layout features are divided into two groups. The analogies of the monuments can be traced with the monuments of Konda River’s basin in Surgut and Lower Ob region of IV-XI centuries.
