Specifics of Finnish web news texts: structure and language exposure mechanism

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the article explores the structural features and language means of expression of web news texts of the Finnish online publication website YLE. For the first time Finnish web texts are studied. The need to research the linguistic mechanism of influence of Finnish-language web texts on the readership explains the urgency of the article.
Objective: to identify design features and nationally specific vocabulary of Finnish web news texts.
Research materials: 30 news web texts of social and political content in the Finnish language from the information program Yle Uutiset. The total volume of the texts is 145 567 print characters, also each article contains about 600–700 words, i.e. on average 5–6 thousand print characters. The chronological framework of the material under study dates from January to April 2020.
Results and novelty of the research: the scientific novelty is that it is the first time web texts on the material in Finnish language are studied to identify the peculiarities of the language mechanism and means of influence on the addressee. The set of media topics is characterized by their stable character. Ecocentrism is a nationally specific topic for the Finnish media. The referent situation includes specific referents that allow value reinterpretation of the situation. The specificity of web texts consists of the combination of several genres: news and analytical text and historical narrative. Functional and genre specificity of web news texts is the hybridity of technical methods of their creation. The structural features of web texts are the use of 625 Bulletin of Ugric Studies. Vol. 10, № 4. 2020. questions to an imaginary interlocutor (dubitation), presence of hyperlinks, photo and video materials. Media reconstructions and interpretation of the events of the surrounding world are culturally specific. There is widespread use of indefinite-personal, general-personal and impersonal constructions at the language level. The most common language means and methods of influence on the addressee in Finnish web texts are introduction of evaluative situation in the factual one, use of evaluative adjectives and nouns, metaphors and allusions.
